The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has denied choosing the Adokie
Amiesimaka Stadium as venue for the country’s Russia 2018 World Cup
qualifier against Algeria on November 7.
There were reports at the
weekend that the federation has decided to use the Port Harcourt
stadium for the game following assurances by the Rivers State
government.
The Eagles last competitive game against Tanzania was
played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, which many
tipped to host the match against the Desert Foxes of Algeria until the
latest report on Saturday.
However, NFF Deputy Director, Media,
Ademola Olajire, who was at the M.K.O Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, to watch
Enugu Rangers become Nigeria’s new league champions, said the
federation has not contemplated changing the venue.
He
rather affirmed, “Eagles will meet Algerians at the Godswill Akpabio
International Stadium, Uyo. If there is any change of plans the
information will come from the NFF.
“The NFF didn’t write any letter to the Rivers State government as we have already concluded on the choice of Uyo for the game.”
Many
Super Eagles’ players complained about the poor state of the Godswill
Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, when Nigeria hosted Tanzania at the venue, also
known as Nest of Champions, in an African Nations Cup qualifier. But the
Akwa Ibom government promised to fix the pitch before the team’s next
game.
