Here are 7 people discovered years after their deaths

1The 15-year old Incan girl who was found 500 years after her death

When researchers discovered this body in 1999, they found out that it was so preserved that they could correctly ascertain the cause of death – a single hard blow to the head. More shocking is that this 15-year old girl, nicknamed ”La Doncella” (The Maiden) had died approximately 500 years ago. Researchers say that she was led up to the sides of a mountain in present day Argentina to be used as a religious sacrifice.
Sample revealed that, she and two others were fed coca leaves (from which cocaine is derived) and alcoholic beverage to make them more compliant in the religious ritual. The cold temperature and dry low oxygen air of the Andes helped preserve her body for centuries.

2The mysterious twins whose skeletons were found three years after

In March 2014, police were asked to check on twin brothers, Andrew and Anthony Johnson by a relative who had a key to the twins’ home. What no one expected to see was the decomposing skeletal remains of the twin brothers sitting in recliners in the living room, inside the home they shared for decades, and where they apparently died together three years earlier, with no obvious signs of foul play.
Appalled neighbours reported that the 63-year old brothers were a bit of a mystery to everyone as they were often seen wearing surgical masks while gardening and were never seen with visitors. It was said that the Johnsons’ house always remained dark, with no exterior lighting, even at night and that blinds blocked any view into their modest home.
Their death left many guessing. Was there a gas leak that killed them? Was it a double suicide? Were they poisoned? Or did they just sit down one day and die together? I guess no one would ever know.

3The woman whose auto-payments hid her death for over 5 years

Pia Farrenkopf in her high school yearbook and her home where are body was found
Nobody suspected anything. Her bills were being paid and neighbours said she travelled a lot, so didn’t notice anything unusual about her absence. But when her account ran dry and the payments stopped, the bank had to foreclose on the house after their numerous warning messages were ignored. Still, nobody wondered what had become of the owner of the house.
It was not until 5 years after her death that the mummified body of Pia Farrenkopf was found. Her body was found by a worker sent by the bank to carry out repairs on the house. The woman’s mummified body was sitting in the back seat of her car, parked in the garage with the key was halfway in the ignition.
Adding more mystery to the gruesome discovery is the fact that Farrenkopf registered to vote in 2006 and even cast a vote in the 2010 elections, though authorities believe she died at some point in 2008. Detectives were unable to ascertain the cause of death.

4The teen who was found in an abandoned cabin’s chimney seven years after he vanished

In August of 2015, a construction crew made a grisly discovery when they found the skeletal remains of a boy inside a Colorado cabin’s chimney, whom was later identified as 18-year-old Joshua Maddux. He was reported to have gone missing 7 years earlier.
Joshua Maddux likely became stuck while attempting to shimmy down the chimney, located less than a mile from his home. His sister said she last saw him going out for a walk in 2008.

5The Croatian Woman Who Sat Dead in Front of Her TV for 42 Years

The remains of a woman were found sitting in front of her TV – 42 years after she was reported missing. Hedviga Golik, who was born in 1924, had apparently made herself a cup of tea before sitting in her favorite armchair in front of her black and white television set. Croatian police said that she was last seen by neighbors in 1966, when she would have been 42 years old. Her neighbors thought she had moved out of her flat in Zagreb.
However, she was found by police and bailiffs when they broke in to help the authorities establish who owned the flat. When officers went there, they said it was like stepping into a place frozen in time. The cup from which she had been drinking tea was still on a table next to the chair where she had been sitting, and the house was full of things no one had seen for a long time. Nothing had been disturbed for decades, although there were more than a few cobwebs in there.

6The mummified baby who was found between walls 7 months after death

A mummified baby
In 1850, a mummified baby was found between the walls of a Parisian apartment. The unfortunate couple who discovered it had been doing renovations to the apartment, when they made the grim discovery, suspicion soon fell on the couple that they may have been responsible for the infant’s demise. Luckily for the couple, they were found innocent of murder when Dr. Marcel Bereget, who studied the changes in corpses after burial, used flies to determine the time of death.
The case was further investigated by Edmond Perrier Megnin, a pathologist who worked at the Natural History Museum. His hobby was recording the stages of necrophilious insect infestations. He used mites in his investigate which proved that the mummified infant had died seven months before its discovery, (Although it was later suggested that Megnin’s timeline was faulty, and the time of death was eight month earlier.
