In what appeared to be a clampdown on criminals operating in Oshodi, the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested 5 teenage mobile phone thieves in Oshodi, while brazenly dispossessing commuters of their belongings.
The suspects; Ganiyu Rahman Sadiq Adebayo (15); Timilehin Oluwaseun (14); Ogundare Moyinoluwa (18); Toheeb Tijani (19) and Adeleke Sodiq (17) were arrested on Friday morning in Oshodi Oke.
According to Rahman, “We are over 50 boys. We are always in Oshodi-Oke, from morning till late night. At times, we pretend to be helping them but our focus is their valuables. Most times, we work in groups.
While the other is helping out, another person is stealing the victim’s valuables either from bag or pocket. There are some other guys who forcibly dispossess passers-by of their belongings. These gangs operate early in the morning and late at night when their victims are helpless.”
Getting personally, Rahman disclosed that he is a product of a broken home. He said: “I have been sleeping in Oshodi Under Bridge since 2013. I have been committed to 13 month rehabilitation by the Lagos State Taskforce but my home is in Oshodi Under Bridge."
Adebayo, who was allegedly in company of two other boys while stealing an iPhone and a phantom Techno phone from a car, disclosed: “Osas and Janbele stole the two phones. We have sold them along with 7 other phones to Tuwo in Idi Oro, Mushin. They gave me N7,000 from the proceeds."

Kidnappers release victims, abduct those who came to drop ransom
9 members of a kidnap gang have been arrested by the operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The police said the gang was responsible for most of the kidnappings that took place within GRA Phase 2, Port Harcourt, Borokiri General Area and YKC axis of Woji in Rivers State.
They are: Daniel Gabriel (33), Alaso Igodo (25), Akeodi Aselemi (34), Ayibinmotei Livinus (25), Anikuroka Marshal (33), Biebele Elijah (34) Efiye Anda (34), Daniel Lessor (31) and Isaac Reuben (27).
In one of the kidnaps carried out by the gang, on August 10, 2016, a pastor, Mrs. Luis Ubah and one Mr. Chika Ezenwa were abducted. Soon after, the gang made contact with Ubah’s husband, Bishop Prince Ubah, from whom they demanded a N50m ransom for her freedom.
During the ensuing negotiation, the ransom for the release of the bishop’s wife was reduced to N2.8m and a place was agreed on for the family to drop the ransom.
But when two brothers of the bishop, Onyeka Ani and Pastor Okezie Akara, took the money to the agreed place on August 25, 2016, 15 days after Mrs. Ubah was kidnapped, the gang members decided to release her along with Ezenwa, but kidnapped the two brothers instead.
The police said they then demanded another N1m ransom from the bishop for his brothers. But N750, 000 was eventually paid for their release.
The police said investigation on the scale of the operations of the gang was still on and that they were making efforts to arrest other members of the gang who are now underground. Crdt: Punchng

Serial child kidnapper burnt alive in Imo State .
A notorious kidnapper, Osundu, aka Galaxy, and his gang got more than they bargained for at Umu-Ode, on October 4, 2016, as he was not only caught, but burnt alive by members of the community, the Sun reports.
Galaxy had been a terror to the people as he specialized in the kidnapping of children for sale, an act he carried out for over five months.
Galaxy and members of his gang had a practice of visiting Umu-Ode Ezelu on the communities market day, when most people would have gone out, and particularly at such hours when there would probably be no adult person around to confront them.
They would then abduct any child they could see. But on that fateful day, they met their Waterloo, after they abducted the male child of a street trader, Mrs. Elesius Duru, and zoomed off.
The woman raised an alarm that caught the attention of youths in the area and members of the Imo Security Network, who pursued the gang and caught them.
The irate youths took custody of Galaxy and one of his members, and after questioning them, they instantly administered jungle justice by setting the duo ablaze, even before the police arrived at the scene.
An indigene of the community explained that the youths took the decision because of their conviction that the duo would have been set free if they had been handed over to the police.

Nurudeen Alin, 32, and his accomplice, Mohammed Garba, 26, went to the residence of their victim, Yahuza Fakai, at College Road, Amejiogbe area of Oyo town, Oyo State, and stabbed him with a knife several times, Punchng reports.
The state Commissioner of Police, Samuel Adegbuyi, said investigation revealed that Ali was dismissed from the FRSC for driving licence touting offence, stating also that the victim had on many occasions supported Ali with money after he lost his job.
He said, “The victim and Ali were friends and after Ali was dismissed, he got a lot of financial help from Fakai. On October 14 this year, Ali and an accomplice, Garba, went to Fakai’s house and stabbed him to death. The murder weapon, a knife, was recovered from them."

He said: “Fakai was my friend because we worked together at FRSC before I was dismissed. He had been helping me until I killed him. A day before he was killed, he called me and gave me some money.
He also said that I should see him again for more money. I went to his house with Garba but when we got there, I needed to receive a call and stepped out, by the time I returned to the house, Garba had stabbed him in the neck.

N4.75bn arms cash: Obanikoro refunds N100.4m to EFCC … may regain freedom .
Former Minister of Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, yesterday paid N100.4m out of about N785m allegedly collected from the Office of National Security Adviser (ONSA) by Sylvan McNamara Limited, a company which was allegedly linked to him.
It is unclear when the ex-Minister will pay the balance, but there are indications that he had entered into a commitment with the EFCC. The ex-Minister may regain freedom any moment from now, following the partial fulfilment of his undertaking.
It was learnt that a prima facie case has been established “beyond reasonable doubt” against Obanikoro. A top source in the EFCC said: “After many days of foot-dragging, he has paid back N100.4m.
This, however, does not mean that we are dropping any charges against him. Our objective is first of all to recover the illegal funds. The decision on his trial will depend on the review of his case and the extent to which he is liable.
You know the ex-Minister has admitted flying over N1.299billion to Akure in two shuttles for Gov. Fayose. He also confessed that he personally gave $5.377m (N60m then) cash to Fayose.
He admitted on oath that he was used to siphon public funds meant for arms purchase. These are all criminal offences which are punishable by the nation’s laws. The testimonies of Obanikoro will hasten his trial and ongoing prosecution of all the suspects implicated in the arms cash.”

Father strangles own children, as sacrifice for his father
Thomas Matthew, 35, has revealed how his father, who he claimed initiated him into an occult group, appeared to him and told him to sacrifice his children to him. In response, Matthew strangled his two-month-old son, John and daughter, Mary, 4-month-old, at different times.
However, his attempt to also kill his first son, Josiah, 9, backfired. The incident happened in Mountain village, Asokoro, Abuja.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Mustafa, said Matthew strangled his daughter, Mary, inside his house on October 7, 2016, after beating his wife, Bola, who is deaf and dumb, and chasing her out of the house.
In a brief interaction facilitated by a sign language expert, Bola recalled how the husband had tried to kill their first son. She said: “I didn’t know that my husband is a cultist. I remember when he first tried to kill our first son, I reported the matter at the Garki Police Station.
It was my mother who took the boy away from the house and he is still staying with her in Mararaba, Nasarawa State. Then I had another son last year. When he was two months old, he became sick. My husband killed him in September 2015. I didn’t know until he confessed.
This year I had our daughter. In the night of October 7, 2016, we were together in the house when suddenly he started beating me. I got injured and ran away to his elder sister’s house. Before I came back with his sister, he had strangled our baby to death."
While speaking to newsmen, Matthew said: "My father is a cultist and he initiated me into the occult. My father asked me to offer the children as sacrifice and mark of honour to him, promising he would make me become rich.
It was a covenant. My father gave me conditions that if I revealed the covenant, that the covenant would be destroyed. I also wanted to kill my younger brother according to my father’s instruction. My father is still alive and he is in the village in Benue State.” Crdt: The Sun

I bought two human heads for N10,000 — Herbalist
Ramoni Akeem, 41, Azeez Ojelade, 36, and Salimon Salami, 40, have been arrested at a hideout in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, for being in possession of two human skulls, after the police received information from members of the public, who had raised the alarm that the suspects were dealing in human parts.
The state Commissioner of Police, Samuel Adegbuyi, said one of the skulls was discovered to have had what looked like a deep machete cut at its temple, leaving the police to suspect that the person the head belonged to might have been gruesomely killed.
Akeem said he paid N10, 000 for the skulls and that Salami was the vendor. Akeem said, “I am a herbalist and I heal people with herbs. I have never used body parts for rituals. One day, a friend came to me and said his friend discovered two corpses on a land where he had wanted to cut trees.
He asked if I knew what body parts could be used for. I told him that I did not know anything about charms prepared with body parts. One of our friends, Saheed Ifa, who is a senior herbalist, heard about it and said he could make use of the skulls to prepare charms.
When the skulls were produced, the man who brought them demanded for N10, 000. I paid him in four instalments. But that is all I know about the skulls. Ifa has travelled to Lagos. I don’t know where he lives in Lagos.”
Salami, who claimed to have discovered the corpses, denied any wrongdoing. He said, “I was asked to cut some trees on a large piece of land but when I got there, I discovered two corpses and I told a friend that I was afraid to work on the land because someone killed two people there.
He said I should continue with my work while he looked for what to do with the corpses. When he got a buyer, he contacted me and I went back to the bush and dismembered the heads from the bodies,” he said. Crdt: Punchng

4 female children branded as witches, rescued in Akwa Ibom State
They were rescued on Oct 25, 2016, and according to Child's Right And Rehabilitation Network (CRARN),
who posted it on Facebook, wrote: "Four female children were yesterday rescued by a good samaritan around 1:00 AM in the night.
The children whose origins are yet to be identified said they were told in a prayer house that they were witches, an allegation which compelled their parent to abandoned them in another prayers house which they went for deliverance, for years without bringing them food.
Their parent later came to the church at the instance of the pastor, pick them and put them in a waiting car which drove them to the Abak bridge and dropped them there.
The children were malnourished and seen with wounds, bruises, and scars in different parts of their body indicative of variant degrees of torture, which of course are not uncommon with children who suffer similar faith consequent upon witchcraft stigmatization.
'My father said he's afraid of God, he would have killed us as instructed by the prophets." one of the children said.
A right activist said after the rescue: "Children have continued to be abandoned in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria over witchcraft allegation by parents after desperate and nouveau riche pastors and prophets label witches/wizards and made their parents force them on the streets if not killed.
These children were lucky to be rescued yesterday in the wee hours of the night at Abak new bridge otherwise, they would have been picked by the lurking human traffickers or ritual killers who maraud the streets in search of children for diabolic purposes."

3 die in mysterious well, rescuer receives strange slap, as residents seek spiritual solution
Residents of Hanik Street, Federal Housing Estate 3-3 Onitsha, Anambra State were recently thrown into mournful mood, following the death of three men in a borehole, DailySun reports.
Eyewitnesses said the locally dug borehole developed fault and a young lady, who lived in the building, invited a man to recover the sumo for repairs. Unfortunately, the man got trapped inside the hole while every effort to rescue him failed.
“They called for help and a fellow Calabar man went inside to help bring out his kinsman but got trapped as well. Some minutes later, an Hausa man living around the area also volunteered to enter the well to rescue the trapped men, although at the cost of N100, 000 which the residents agreed to pay but the man never came out .
It would have been four dead bodies because a fourth person entered but he was lucky to come out alive though he complained of receiving a strange slap from the spirits inside the hole. He came out with swollen face and is in critical condition, presently,” the source stated.
It was gathered that the owner of the building is a pastor and had travelled outside the country. After several efforts to rescue the trapped men, some residents resorted to prayers while others began incantations and offered sacrifice of goats and fowls to appease the gods so that the victims would be brought out alive but all were in vain.
Officials of the National Emergency management agency later helped to evacuate the bodies. The cause of their death was attributed to the lack of oxygen as the person that finally evacuated the dead bodies succeeded because oxygen was repeatedly injected into the borehole.

Mariah Carey and billionaire fiancé James Packer calls it quits
Mariah Carey and James Packer have called it quits, TMZ is reporting. The billionaire casino mogul dumped his fiancée after falling out over her new reality TV show and extravagant spending.
The tycoon is understood to have walked away from the singer as she prepares to expose much of her glittering life on a new reality TV show, allowing her to keep the $10m diamond engagement ring he gave her in January.
TMZ's sources say what may have been the deal breaker for Packer came when she had some sort of rendezvous with one of the dancers in her Vegas show, something that is on video for the reality show. James hated the reality show from the get-go and it became a major source of conflict.

Nigerian Nanny Accused of Force-Feeding 8-Month-Old Girl Until She Choked
A Maryland nanny has been charged in the death of a baby girl after she was allegedly caught on surveillance camera forcefully feeding her two bottles, police said.
Eight-month-old Enita Salubi of Glenarden died Monday afternoon after she was rushed to a hospital, Prince George's County Police said. Authorities said video camera footage shows the events that led to the little girl's death.
The nanny, 66-year-old Oluremi Oyindasola, was asleep on a couch inside the house Monday when the baby, who was in a walker, began crying and woke the nanny, police said.
Police said a video surveillance camera shows the nanny tried to feed the baby, but without success. Oyindasola then pulled the baby from her walker, removed the nipple from her bottle and forcefully fed her, police said.
"She forcefully poured the two bottles of what looks to be milk down the baby's mouth, causing her to not be able to breathe, suffocating her, and eventually she died at the hospital," said Col. Harry Bond of Prince George's County Police.
The baby appeared to squirm and resist while being fed the first bottle, and then Oyindasola forced the contents of a second bottle into her mouth, the documents said.
The baby became unresponsive, and Oyindasola called the baby's father, who dialed 911 as he raced home. Police said an autopsy revealed Salubi's cause of death was asphyxiation, and the manner of death was homicide.
Oyindasola has been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree child abuse resulting in death, and related charges. More than one neighbor said they'd been concerned about the baby for some time. "That baby just cried [and] cried," said neighbor Walker. "Every time I came outside, I'd hear that baby cry."

NERC Chairman-designate, rejects Buhari’s appointment
Prof. Akintunde Akinwande, the Chairman-designate of the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), has rejected his appointment, by Pres. Buhari, to head the agency.
The rejection marked the third time an appointee by Buhari would reject his or her nominations in recent days. Mrs. Pauline Tallen (Plateau) and Usman Bugaje (Katsina) recently rejected their ambassadorial appointments.
It was learnt that Akinwande rejected the nomination because he was not consulted before the nomination was made. It was further gathered that the professor was not resident in Nigeria but based in the U.S where he’s pursuing a project at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Crdt: ThisDay

I didn't rape her. I only put my p*nis in her mouth - Teacher arrested for raping a student
A school teacher Olamilekan Enilolobo, 20, has been apprehended by the police for allegedly sexual assaulting a pupil. The suspect said he only put his manhood inside the mouth of his 12-year-old victim.
While being paraded by the Lagos State police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, he said: “I usually teach the victim and two others after school at Ikotun. When the girl was brought to my place, I said they should buy a notebook for her but her parents didn’t.
So, last Wednesday, I gave her an assignment but she didn’t do it. When she came to me on Thursday during school period, I asked if the notebook but she said her mother didn’t give her the money. I told her to go to JSS one class and join the other two girls that I would soon be with them.
When I was done with my classes, I joined them there and teaching them for the day. My house is not far from the school and my mum had called that I should do the dishes. So, I told the girl to follow me that I would buy the notebook for her at a woman’s shop near my house.
She followed me down, I bought the book for her and she said she was hungry. In order for her to understand what I would teach, I bought biscuit for her and as I was about to go, the woman said I should bring her bottle which has been with me.
I told her I would bring it later but she refused and said instead, the girl should follow me to the house so that I would give her the bottle. So, that was how the girl followed me to the house and I took her inside our parlour. I put her on the chair and put my manhood in her mouth.
It just came over me. I don’t know what happened. I didn’t touch her private part. They have done a test and confirmed I didn’t touch there. She didn’t cry and she didn’t complain. But she went home and reported to her parents and they came to the school to complain.
I know that I have committed a crime and I am guilty. Whatever is my punishment, I would face it and hope God would have mercy on me. I have never done something like this before. I don’t have a girlfriend.”

"it was PDP that humiliated my husband and killed him"Alameiseigha’s Widow maggie
Mrs. Magareth Alameiseigha, the widow of the First Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Late Diepreye Solomon Alameisegha, yesterday exonerated the leadership of the APC from the events which led to the October 2015 death of her husband.
According to her, though the events leading to the last year death of her husband sparked off controversy between the PDP and APC ahead of the Governorship election, the killing of her husband started with his removal from office, arrest, trial and seizure of owned properties under the leadership of the PDP.
While speaking with news men during the First Year Anniversary of the death of her husband, she said: “I can categorically say today that it was the PDP that arrested my husband, seized all his properties and humiliated him to the point of his death.
It is PDP that killed my husband and not the APC. It was PDP that arrested my husband, it was PDP that humiliated my husband and killed him. At the end they seized everything that belonged to him.
It was the PDP that tormented my husband and he died as a result of the humiliation he suffered in the hands of the PDP. As far as am concerned, the humiliated me and took everything away from us.
When my husband took over the mantle of leadership, he saw how his people were suffering. As an intelligent man, he saw the need to fight for resource control as the way out for his people.
But at the end it is the same people that he fourth for that betrayed him. They sold him out to the PDP that eventually killed him. I want to advise the Ijaw people to stop betraying their leaders, so that they can move forward.”

Teachers sent abroad for training have absconded – Jigawa state government
About 700 primary school teachers in Jigawa State stand the risk of losing their jobs, following the ongoing verification in the state, to fish out ghost teachers and absentees, especially those who went for in-service courses in universities across the world, but had graduated and refused to report to their place of work.
The action of those teachers has compelled the government to further suspend, indefinitely, in-service training courses. The government was furious that the teachers betrayed its trust by remaining abroad when their expertise was needed back home.
Lamenting the development, the Head of Service, Mohammed Inuwa Tahir, said: “What kind of degree course does a worker spend 15 years studying and still collecting salaries.
Our government will not condone laziness and unfair act by some workers who have the habit of completing their study and refusing to report back to their place of work.”

A middle-aged man named "Idris" has been apprehended by the Department of State Services (DSS) detectives for attempting to facilitate the escape of a former BBC Hausa Service reporter, Jamilah Tangaza from Nigeria through a small border town in Kwara state, SR reports.
The DSS agents caught Idris with Ms. Tangaza's passport after he had attempted to get it stamped by the Nigerian Immigration Services outpost in Chikanda in Kwara State.
According to a DSS official, Ms. Tangaza was waiting to collect the passport and exit Nigeria through the border town. She could not be found after her emissary tipped her off that he'd been arrested by the DSS.
Ms. Tangaza was detained in August 2016 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission accused her of stealing N800m while she served as the Director of Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS) as well as a SeniorSpecial Assistant to the former FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed.
A source at the EFCC said the agency was surprised that she acquired another passport after depositing her original passport with the EFCC in August as part of the conditions for granting her bail.

" I don’t believe somebody can just steal $2.2bn."-Goodluck Jonathan
Yesterday, former Pres. Goodluck Jonathan said it was impossible for the National Security Adviser (NSA) during his administration, Sambo Dasuki, to have stolen $2.2 billion as claimed by the EFCC.
His words: “They said the National Security Adviser stole $2.2bn. I don’t believe somebody can just steal $2.2bn. We bought warships, we bought aircraft, we bought lots of weapons for the army and so on and so forth and you are still saying 2.2bn, so where did we get the money to buy all those things?
Yes, there were some issues; yes, there are still corruption issues; but some of it were blown, I’d say exaggerated, and they give a very bad impression about our nation. You cannot say the national security adviser stole $2.2bn. It is not just possible."

Father Receives Longest Prison sentence of 1,503 years for raping daughter
A California man received the longest prison sentence in the history of Fresno — 1,503 years — after he refused two plea deals that would have put him back on the streets, according to a report.
Rene Lopez, 41, was convicted of felony incest in Fresno Superior Court after he repeatedly raped his 12-year-old daughter from 2009 to 2013, the Fresno Bee reported.
In handing down the sentence, Judge Edward Sarkisian Jr. admonished Lopez for committing the callous acts and violating his fatherly trust while labeling him a “serious danger to society.”
Sarkisian also blasted Lopez for not showing any remorse and blaming his daughter for his unspeakable acts. During the sentencing hearing, the victim, who is now 23, stood up and read an emotional statement, saying, “When my father abused me, I was young.
I had no power, no voice. I was defenseless.” Prosecutors said Lopez “chose to turn her into a piece of property and use her to satisfy his sexual needs.” Lopez raped his daughter up to three times a week until she mustered up the courage to leave him and report his dirty deeds to the police.

It’s impossible to sell petrol at N145 per litre today – NNPC
The Group General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing Department of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr. Mele Kyari, has said the nation’s difficult business environment may make it difficult to sustain the current pump price of petrol.
He spoke at the 10th Oil Trading and Logistics Africa Downstream Week in Lagos, where he also said it was impossible to import products at the current market price, at current fixed foreign exchange rate and recover one’s money.
He said marketers that are currently selling below N145/litre are doing so because they are not the importers of the fuel. “Because we (NNPC) have taken the heat, and you buy from us you can afford to go to the market and then put a ridiculous price. It is not possible, because they did not import it.”
However, Kyari ruled out the possibility of increasing the pump price by government due to the economic hardship in the country, saying, “It is impossible for this government to announce tomorrow that petrol is about N150. This government cannot sustain it. That is the truth. The people will not take that number. But that is why the suppliers now are not importing. It is not about the foreign exchange.”
He said “we are in subsidy regime absolutely, there is no way you bring product today and take it and sell at N145 and get back your money, and make profit. That is not possible. You can see some marketers saying that fuel is N138. It is because they did not import. Somebody has taken the heat of the price."

We fought corruption without making noise – Jonathan
Former President Goodluck Jonathan said this on Monday while speaking at the Oxford Union of the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. Responding to inquiries by some of the students regarding his administration’s fight against corruption, GEJ said he would not like to “interfere with the legal processes” because “several matters are pending in court”.
He, however, said he did enough to reform anti-corruption agencies to enable them function effectively. “We reformed the institutions and introduced various mechanisms to stop the corruption problems in our country without publicity,” he said.
