Emmanuel Dike, 22, a Hillside man, has been arrested on charges he killed his 20-year-old girlfriend, whose body was found in his apartment last week, authorities said.
He was taken into custody Thursday at a hotel on Routes 1&9 in Newark, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace Park said in a statement.
He is charged with the first-degree murder in the killing of Christa Caper, 20, of Jersey City. Dike is being held on $1 million bail.
Police responded to a call Oct. 20 about a woman, identified as Capers, who was found unresponsive in Dike's apartment on the 1500 block of Schley Street in Hillside. The cause of her death is still under investigation, authorities said.
Hillside police, investigators from the Union County Homicide Task Force, and Union County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Unit conducted an intense search for Dike over several days and spanning multiple states, before he was eventually arrested on Thursday.
