Lawal Kontogora would have been celebrating his 26th birthday on 22nd October, 2016 but for the tragedy that befell his family on Monday, 17th October, 2016, when some hoodlums attacked and butchered him to death in Malali, Kaduna State, DailyTrust reports.
It was gathered that the deceased graduated from one of the universities in Malaysia four months ago, and returned to Nigeria to participate in the one-year mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The deceased was the 1st born of his mother, Hajiya Hafsat Lawal Kontagora. A close family friend, Yusuf Ma'aji, said: "Lawal, we learnt, was chatting with his friend, Murja outside her parents house, when two hoodlums came out from an uncompleted building and tapped on the window of his 406 Pegout vehicle.
He wound down the glass and they asked them to come and kneel down, which they did. The hoodlums asked them to surrender their phones, so Lawal was trying to get the phones from inside the car, I believe one of the hoodlums got impatient with Lawal and before he could get the phones from the car, they shot at his legs.
His leg scattered completely because the shot was in close range, then they used a weapon called 'Gario' in hausa to cut the back of his head, towards his neck. He even dragged himself into his car and started it thinking he could drive himself to the hospital, but probably because he was losing a lot of blood, he was not able too.
When the incident was taking place, his friend, Murja fled and went to call for help. When the hoodlums discovered that people were coming to help, they started shooting in the air before they left the place. The people saw him in a pool of his blood and before they arrived at Garkuwa hospital, he was already dead."
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Usman Aliyu, said two suspects (pictured) have been arrested in connection with the case.
