This was revealed by the minister of agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh. He said based on a report by the National Agency for Food and Administration and Control (NAFDAC), foreign tomato pastes imported into Nigeria are not good.
His words: “The Chinese are the ones messing us up on tomato paste. Each time Dangote tries to produce, they lower their prices. There’s a report by NAFDAC on the quality of foreign tomato pastes. The report is very bad.
We think we have every reason in that report to ban foreign tomato pastes into the country. If you don’t ban it on health ground, you have to ban it on any other ground."

Alleged N4.7bn fraud: Obanikoro agrees to testify against Gov. Fayose
Punchng quotes a reliable EFCC source as
saying, “Senator Obanikoro came to the EFCC office on Monday morning as part of investigations into the N4.7bn. Since he has confessed that he was the one who collected the N4.7bn and distributed it, he is in the best position to testify in court.
The EFCC wants him to testify against Agbele which will also build a strong case against Fayose who currently enjoys immunity. Obanikoro has agreed and will be listed as one of the EFCC witnesses.
If Agbele is convicted, it automatically means that Fayose will also be convicted once he is charged in 2018. So let Fayose continue to play games. Omisore and Obanikoro are cooperating and returning money. Their troubles will end soon while Fayose’s own will keep getting worse.
Obanikoro has returned N104m and has pledged to return N480m in instalments every four months, but if he cannot cooperate with the EFCC, then he and his sons may be charged along with the others.
Plea bargain and negotiation are a standard practice in criminal justice across the world.” In his statement, Obanikoro had told the EFCC that he handed N1.3bn to the then governorship candidate of PDP in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore.
He also said N1.219bn was given to Fayose through his aide, Agbele, during the build-up to the Ekiti governorship election. The ex-minister is believed to have kept about N785m for himself, an action which is said to have angered Fayose.

Army launches ‘Operation Python Dance in S-East’; Warns IPOB, MASSOB, herdsmen
Yesterday, the Nigerian Army began a security operation code-named Exercise Python Dance, in the five South-East states as part of efforts to ensure a hitch-free Yuletide period, with a warning to groups in the area that they would be the target if they foment trouble during the period.
The one-month exercise would end on December 27, after which the Army would be on ground to maintain peace in the various communities in the geo-political zone.
Deputy Director of Army Public Relations of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Colonel Sagir Musa, told reporters in Awka that the prevalent security issues such as robbery, kidnapping, abduction, herdsmen-farmers clashes and violent secessionist attacks, among others, would be the main focus of the exercise.
Essentially, he said that any group that threatened the security of the nation in the zone would be disarmed, adding that the exercise became necessary because of the rise in violent crimes during the yuletide period.

Two women arrested for deliberately damaging a girl's skin, so as to use her to beg for alms
Amadi and Mama Esther have been arrested for allegedly abusing a 9-year-old girl, Joy Esemonu, in FESTAC Town, Lagos, by pouring chemical on her, thus making her sustain injuries in different parts of her body and subsequently taking her to a pedestrian bridge in the FESTAC, to beg for alms, daily.
At the end of every begging trip, the two women reportedly shared the money realized. However, a Good Samaritan, who observed the victim’s condition on the bridge, reportedly alerted the police, leading to the arrest of the two women.
A social worker who was privy to the case told Punchng that Mama Esther was a relation of the victim and had lured her from their village in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
However, when she brought her to Lagos, she decided to hand her over to Amadi, who she owed some money. The woman then decided to use her for begging. Amadi would make her sleep before pouring a substance suspected to be chemical on her body.
By the time she wakes up and scratches the spots after feeling some pains, they would become sore. The woman would then bandaged the place and take her out for begging.
Whenever the injuries heals, she would make her sleep again and pour the chemical on her. A source said, Mama Esther, in her confession, claimed that she always collected between N2,500 to N3,000 as her share every day.

Don’t blame Buhari for your hunger Fr Mbaka exhorts FG
Fiery Enugu State Catholic priest Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has called for the arrest of more judges, saying that God was revolutionalising Nigeria with the arrest of judges who were hitherto, the untouchables.
He also called for prayers for Pres. Buhari and has absolved him of blame in the country’s economic challenges. Fr. Mbaka, however, reassured Nigerians that the current economic condition in the country will soon be over.
In a sermon to mark the opening of the 2016/2017 Legal Year, organised by Enugu State Judiciary, Mbaka recalled that, in 2012, he prophesied that doom time would follow the oil boom, if there was no good planning of the country’s resources.
“But, the past administration was one of ‘loot as much as you can.’ Look at a place like the Niger Delta and one of them became president and did nothing for his people and now, you want Buhari to perform magic.
But, we are a mono economy and every country depending on oil is suffering the same fate with Nigeria today. Buhari is not the cause of hunger in the country; not the cause of starvation in Nigeria.
The tap root of Nigeria’s economy has been cut; Buhari is just trying to hold a rolling vehicle; a vehicle that the brakes have been destroyed. So, Buhari is not the cause. If GEJ was the president today, the situation would have been worse.
Economic recession will not last long; the solution will come in a super natural way. So, all we have to do is to pray for Buhari; he has good agenda but, many around him are planning to pull him down.”
On the recent arrest of judges, Mbaka said Nigerians are beginning to lose hope in the Judiciary, “but with Buhari’s revolutionary experience going on, I am not saying that all who are accused are guilty but, I am saying that judges ought to remain incorruptible.
If they are corrupt, they should be arrested and whoever arrests them should be praised. “So, if president Buhari has that courage, that lion heart, to touch the tiger’s tail, he is a hero.”

FUTA VC Arrested For Deliberately Crushing NASU Staff With His Vehicle
Prof. Adebiyi Daramola, the embattled Vice Chancellor of the crisis-ridden Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), in Ondo State, was this morning arrested after he hit a member of staff of the institution with his car, SR reports.
Abiodun Ademola Atunbi of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) member of FUTA was allegedly crushed to the point of death, and was rushed to the hospital. The incident happened on the main campus at about 8:30a.m. as some members of staff of the institution were gathering at a meeting point for prayers.
Several aggrieved members of staff of the school converged at the Senate building following the incident. Many of them trooped out to the street and made a bonfire as a sign of protest against the V.C’s wickedness, described by one of them as a deliberate action taken out of anger to kill Mr. Atunbi, who was one of the activists agitating for his removal from office.
One source told SaharaReporters that Atunbi was on his way to the prayer ground but was attacked by Prof. Daramola with his vehicle immediately the V.C saw him. “He deliberately did it with the aim of killing Atunbi who he sees as a threat and whistleblower to his corrupt administration in the school,” he said.
“This is a man that has been threatening to kill all of us who are agitating for his removal from the office following the discovery of his corrupt practices with the school treasury," he added.

FCT hospital abandons accident victim for hours over inability to pay N3,500
An accident victim, James Omase, was reportedly refused medical attention for three hours on Saturday by the Kubwa General Hospital, Abuja over his inability to pay a N3, 500 bill, reports Punchng.
Omase, 20, was taken to the hospital around 6pm but the medical personnel refused to attend to him until around 9pm, when his employer showed up and paid the bill. He was riding a motorcycle along Arab Road, Kubwa, when another rider rammed into him, causing him to fall and sustain injuries.
The victim, who worked as a security guard in a residential building, lost two teeth and also sustained an injury on his upper lips, had bruises on his head, right upper arm and on both hands.
Omase said, “I was on the ground in pains and people were passing by, nobody volunteered to take me to the hospital. It was a friend who saw me lying along the road, that took me to the hospital. But when I got there, the nurses said they won’t attend to me until I paid N3,500 for treatment.
I told them I had N2,500 but they refused to accept it or attend to me. I was lying on a bench in pains for many hours. It was a neighbour, who learnt that I was involved in an accident, that went to inform my employers, who came to the hospital around 9pm and paid the money before I was treated.”
The acting Secretary, FCT Hospital Management Board, Mrs. Alice Odey-Achu, expressed disappointment over the conduct of the nurses, saying their action was unacceptable.

One-year-old miracle baby wakes from coma as doctors were ready to turn off life-support machine
Little Marwa, one, was struck by a brain-damaging virus in September that led to doctors insisting she be allowed to die. She had been placed in an induced coma ever since as work was done to try and prevent any further neurological disorders.
But medics in France eventually told Marwa’s Algerian parents there was little more they could do after bouts of “aggressive therapy” failed to make a difference.
The parents campaigned against this decision, launching a Facebook appeal titled Jamais Sans Marwa (Never Without Marwa) to raise money to take the case to court.
They gathered nearly 100,000 signatures and a court ruled in their favour, allowing Marwa’s life-sustaining treatment to continue. Doctors insisted Marwa had no chance of being able to breath, eat or walk independently again.
But just ten days after the decision was granted Marwa miraculously woke up. The footage, shared by her dad on Facebook , shows the baby react to his voice and even smile.

3 California mosques receive letters threatening Muslims
The Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR, said the same handwritten, photocopied letter was sent last week to the Islamic Center of Long Beach, the Islamic Center of Claremont and the Evergreen Islamic Center in San Jose, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.
The letter was addressed to "the children of Satan" and it was signed by "American for A Better Way." The L.A. area mosques received it Wednesday and the San Jose mosque on Thursday.
"There's a new sheriff in town — President Donald Trump. He's going to cleanse America and make it shine again. And, he's going to start with you Muslims," the letter states, according to CAIR. "And, he's going to do to you Muslims what Hitler did to the jews (sic)."
Hussam Ayloush, executive director of CAIR-LA, said people at the L.A. County mosques were disheartened by the hateful letters and added that the "irresponsible, hateful rhetoric" of the Trump campaign has fueled "a level of vulgarity, vile hatred and anger among many self-proclaimed Trump supporters."
"I'm not saying (Trump) created racist people," he said. "He normalized it. While he might say he's not responsible, and I respect that, I remind President-elect Trump that he has a responsibility to act as a president for all Americans."
San Jose Police Department spokesman Sgt. Enrique Garcia said police have opened an investigation and are treating it as a "hate-motivated incident."
Kanye West is 'profoundly depressed and paranoid' as he recovers from breakdown in hospital... but doctors hope he'll be home with wife Kim on Monday
Sources allegedly close to the 39-year-old rapper told TMZ he has been 'dealing with these issues for a long time.'
And after Kanye was rushed to UCLA Medical Center on Monday, the star was allegedly 'convinced people were out to get him.'
This suspicion even apparently extended to the medical staff looking after him, and he briefly 'wouldn't even let the doctors touch him,' according to the U.S. website.
However, the family and wife Kim Kardashian are hoping Kanye can return home on Monday, with his care supervised by his personal doctor.
Kim was at the rapper's bedside on Thanksgiving morning, with a source telling People that the reality star, 35, was with her husband, for several hours.
As a king, I can’t see my new born baby until 90 days – Oba of Lagos
His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos, in an interview with Punchng, revealed that, despite Lagos being a metropolitan city, there are taboos in his palace. He said: "There is nowhere there are no taboos, in Benin, Yoruba cultures.
For instance, in this house (palace), if a child is born to me today, I will not see him or her and he or she will not enter this house (palace) until 90 days. And there are some drinks and food anybody with royal blood in this palace must not put in his mouth."

GEJ, Buhari’s policies are responsible for Nigeria's recession – Obi Ezekwesili
The former Minister said this at the inaugural Business Lecture of the Lagos Country Club in Lagos on Thursday night. According to her: “The parlous state of the Nigerian economy by the 29th of May, 2015 should have instructed an incisive and urgent macroeconomic stabilisation programme to realign the price levels in the economy.
By May 2015, we knew we were already in trouble. As a matter of fact, we were already in trouble in 2014. That was the first time that growth collapsed to 3.8%. The incoming administration should not have been told that we were weak and vulnerable.
Had the government made quick and necessary adjustment that corresponded close enough to the level of impact of the 40% decline in oil revenue, our story could have been different today. We would never have lost growth.
The attendant fiscal pressure and the delayed right policy responses were severe enough that by 2015, economic growth had sharply declined from 3.8 to 2.7%. And then began the sharper loss of growth into negative growth rate by 2016.
So, it is accurate to conclude that both the preceding and successor governments conspired by their actions and inactions to throw the Nigerian economy into the deep throes of economic recession.
The record of the government today for timely and right actions on the economy is, however, so far not encouraging at all. For almost one year, the government delayed prime action on the fuel subsidy regime despite its aggravating import on fiscal imbalance.
Over the same period, it delayed the right action on the exchange rate policy despite the deleterious effects that it was having on foreign reserves, the value of the naira, as well as on inflation.
Before the government came on board, inflation level was 9%; today, inflation has doubled to more than 18%. The greatest enemy of the poor is inflation. The greatest enemy of business is inflation. All you need in order to destroy the poor is total unstable price levels in an economy”.

prayers can't take us out of this recession - Fashola
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, SAN, who spoke while delivering a lecture on “Freedom from Fear, Choices before the New Generation” to mark the 42nd convocation of the University of Benin, Edo State, said that Nigerians must overcome their fears and use their natural resources to create solutions and improve their lives.
While addressing the graduating students, he said, “We will not pray our way out of recession; we will plan and produce our way back to prosperity and out of recession and you are the freshest, youngest and most energetic workforce we will have to work with.
You are the new batteries to power the engine of growth of our country. Your choices must be clear, free from fear, not reckless but driven by analytical thought, questioning and probing and ultimately determined by convictions.”
According to him, young Nigerians must, like their counterparts in developed countries, free their minds from fear, rather than depend solely on spiritual answers to the problems facing the nation. Crdt: Punchng

Boy disfigured by chimpanzees in Congo, thrives after U.S surgery
9-year-old Dunia Sibomana, who was severely disfigured in a chimpanzee attack is marveling doctors with his resiliency a year after he was brought to New York to undergo reconstructive surgery.
Sibomana was the lone survivor, three years ago, when chimpanzees attacked him and two playmates near a preserve in Congo. His 4-year-old brother and a young cousin died. Dunia’s face was left a frightening mask.
His lips were ripped off, his cheek was torn apart and he was left with muscle damage that made it hard to swallow or communicate. In January, Dunia underwent a rare surgery at a Long Island hospital that involved grafting tissue and muscle from his forearm to recreate his lips.
He still has a lot of healing ahead of him, but nearly a year later, Dunia is thriving with a host family in Brooklyn. He can once again open and close his mouth, eat and talk normally.
And doctors and his host family say the boy, who was once self-conscious, shy and withdrawn, has blossomed. He has become fluent in English, learned taekwondo, soccer and surfing, and made friends in his new neighborhood.
Dunia lives with Chaix, his wife and their 9-year-old daughter Annabelle, who walks to school with Dunia arm in arm. She reads him books at bedtime and makes him snacks. Dunia, who hadn’t attended school in Congo, is now in second grade.

One chance operators arrested in Lagos
The operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos State police Command have arrested four suspects for allegedly swindling members of the public of various sums of money.
The four suspects were picked up separately in three incidents of fraud in Maryland, Ojodu Berger and Ajegunle between Tuesday and Thursday last week. They are Kenneth Umukoro, 36; Uba Utokcha, 41; Joseph Onuoha, 40 and Ikechukwu Okeke, 25.
According to one of the victims, Ibeh Chiwenu, she was going to Ojodu Berger from Ojota when Umukoro stopped at the bus stop to pick her. She said: “As he drove along, he picked another passenger on Kudirat Abiola Way.
We were still on Kudirat Abiola Way when the new passenger started a conversation in something like French language with the driver. The driver now pleaded that he wanted to take the new passenger to Custom’s Office on Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, where his goods were seized.
It was here that their story changed and I became the subject of their manipulation in connivance with a custom agent and a pastor. Under the pretext that the four of us assist the man whose goods were trapped with the custom over export duties.
They brainwashed me into releasing my ATM card, led me to withdraw the last N9,000 from my account. After this, the pastor prayed for me and told me to go home and get more money my family kept at home.
On Thursday, my husband and I were standing at the Maryland Bus Stop. I saw the same Toyota Camry with the same number plate and a new driver, but beside it was the former driver that lured me into fraud, pretending to be passenger. I alerted RRS officers stationed in Maryland and they arrested them."

Kidneys that were confirmed damaged, began to heal - Actor Leo Mezie shares his survival story
During a press briefing held on Tuesday at Ojez Bar, Surulere, Lagos, the Nollywood actor told Allure Vanguard the story of his miraculous recovery from a Kidney ailment he suffered few months ago. He said his rapid recovery has compelled him to believe Jesus Christ more than he previously did.
His words: “I don’t know why Jesus chose to give me a second chance, but I believe it’s to serve him, and this time around in everything I do. At a point, I was ready to die.
I had lost all hopes and was already making plans to return to the village, but God gave me a second chance to life, so that I can win more souls for him with my testimony.
We had concluded plans for a kidney transplant; donor’s treatment, medical bills, compensation and lots more, but God turned my case around. After series of prayer, the kidneys that were diagnosed and confirmed damaged began to pick up and heal.
At the long run, I didn’t have to go through any transplant; the doctors were amazed at the sudden transformation, which could be done by only God. My biggest appreciation is to the Almighty God.
Despite my sins and shortcomings, he still found me worthy to receive his mercy. Then to Apostle Johnson. The man of God who gave me money and took care of all my medical bills.
I’d also like to thank my wife, who stood by me in this challenging time despite all odds. I owe my life to you. To my colleagues, fans and the media, God bless you all."

Nigeria’s Senate president, Bukola Saraki, has told the BBC Hausa service that he acquired 95% of his wealth before he entered politics. He is currently under investigation by the Nigerian authorities on allegations of falsely declaring assets when he was governor of Kwara state.
Mr Saraki acknowledged that there was corruption in the country, but said his wealth was a result of coming from a blessed family and hard work. He said he was confident that he would be cleared of the charges against him and he would continue to serve in public office. The senator also said he had not evaded tax - an accusation highlighted in the Panama Papers. His wife also appeared in those documents accused of registering a company offshore to buy a London property.
Saraki, however, said: "Based on legal advice the company was set up because they were acquiring an asset and it was advised at that time and that’s how it was set up to the best of our knowledge.
It was not a company that was set up by ourselves; it was set up by a legal firm and under a legal firm as far as to the best of our knowledge no law was being broken."

An estimated 220 pounds of the precious metal was located all around the home, including 5,000 gold pieces, two 26-pound bars and 37 smaller bars weighing two-pounds each.
The gold was dated back to the 1950s and 1960s when the man’s wealthy relative had bought the precious metal. The certificates of the gold’s authenticity were also found. The heir, though liable to a 45% inheritance tax, has already sold the gold to various international buyers.
He divorced it when he was rearranging the furniture in the house. It was in a box of coins attached to the underside of an item of furniture. The hunt for gold continued when the heir began finding larger amounts of gold in other storage locations of the estate.

How my wife was roasted inside her office by political hoodlums in Abia— Husband
On Wednesday, November 9, 2016, Amaechi Orioha, a 36 –year-old wife and mother of four, was burnt to death by political thugs while she was in her office at Okpuala, the headquarters of Isiala Ngwa North Council, Abia State, Vanguardngr reports.
It was the day Abia State Chapter of PDP held primary election to select chairmanship candidates ahead of next month’s Local Government elections. Her husband, who narrated the sad incident, pointed accusing fingers at some prominent politicians from Ngwa Ukwu and Umuha areas of the Council.
He said: “On Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at about 11.30 am, I was in my house resting after returning from the farm. I got a call from my elder brother, that my wife was involved in fire outbreak in her office.
When I got to the hospital and saw my wife, I lost control; it was like the end of the world for me. I asked her if she recognized the people that set the office on fire. She mentioned three persons, all of them natives of Isiala Ngwa North.
She said that three boys came to the chairman’s office and one of them made a phone call after which one of them poured the fuel around chairman’s office and lit it up."
Orioha said that his late wife told him that she was crying and pleading with the arsonists to allow her escape from the fire but they refused. One of her colleagues died instantly during the inferno.
He also lamented that the Transition chairman whom his late wife worked for did not come to see her at FMC or orthopaedic hospital but came to their house after the woman died.
Interjecting, his elder brother, Ugonna Orioha, alleged that: “On October 19, 2016, some notable politicians from Ngwa Ugwu and Umuha visited our community to solicit support for their aspirant running for chairmanship of the council.
Some of them threatened that if one of the aspirants, Ginger Onwusibe, wins the election, blood will flow, that they will burn down the council. Now see what happened about two weeks after."

Seun Egbegbe releases Official Statement for iPhone Theft Allegations
Yesterday news broke that Nollywood producer Seun Egbegbe had been arrested by the police for attempting to steal some phones from Computer Village in Lagos. Seun has now put out an official statement addressing the issue. Read below:
"My attention has been drawn to an online publication of the aforementioned. The story is pretty laughable and better left in the court of public opinion. Ordinarily, 1 do not want to join issues with the writer of the publication but I have a responsibility to set the records straight for my fans, friends and foes , in the defence of the truth.
To say the least, the news did not only grossly misinform unsuspecting public; it also portrays traces of campaign of calumny by some mercenary hirelings hell bent in destroying my name, for reasons best known to them.
Having read with keen interest the completely self-serving spirited attempt to destroy my person, it has become imperative and timely that a rejoinder is written to state the fact clearly.
I want to state here categorically and emphatically that though I was at Computer Village to address some issues, but I was never arrested for stealing 10 iPhone 7s, as stated by the writer of the story, the matter has since been resolved by the Nigeria Police; and the issue of me stealing phone is devilish from the said writer.
Furthermore, It is rather unfortunate that the said writer will amount to cheap blackmail to deceive the unsuspecting public with a view of gaining cheap popularity.
It is germane to note that I am a charitable, humane, and grass root person, who has exhibited selflessness in communal service, which have used as a veritable tool for social development.
Finally, I wish to inform the general public to discard the report. I am presently at home relaxing!"

HIV positive man who slept with over 100 females, sentenced to two years hard labour
HIV-positive Malawian man, Eric Aniva, has been sentenced to 24 months in jail with hard labour for having unprotected sex with newly bereaved widows. The practice of "widow cleansing", when a widow must have sex after her husband dies, was outlawed a few years ago.
Eric Aniva, known in Malawi as a "hyena", admitted to the BBC to having sex with more than 100 women and girls and not disclosing his HIV status. This led to President Peter Mutharika ordering his arrest in July.
Mutharika had wanted Aniva tried for defiling young girls, but none came forward to testify against him. Instead, he was tried for "harmful cultural practice" under section five of Malawi's Gender Equality Act, for having sex with new widows. Two women testified against him.
