Female IMSU student fakes own kidnap to extort N5m from her family

Rivers State Police Command, on Tuesday, paraded a female student of Imo State University, IMSU, Chinwendu Udensi, for conniving with kidnappers to feign her abduction.
Udensi faked her kidnap and called her parents to get N5m naira to secure her freedom, but was arrested alongside her accomplices while waiting to receive the ransom.
The suspect, who had given her name to the police as Chiwendu Udensi, while fielding questions from newsmen, said her name is Miss Janet Okoro, claiming she was a student of Abia State University.
She said she did it to get money from her wealthy but stingy father. According to her, “my name is Janet Okoro. I am a student of Abia State University. I told these people to fake my kidnap to get money from my people. I only wanted money for my clearance, that is all.”
Commissioner of Police, Francis Odesanya, who paraded the suspects, said: “On November 6, one Nmecha was called on phone that his sister, one Chinwendu Udensi, a student of Imo State University was kidnapped by unknown gunmen at Imo State.
The kidnappers called and demanded for N5m ransom. As they went to pick the money at Obiri Ikwerre Fly-Over, in Port Harcourt, in company of the supposed victim, they were arrested.”
Asked if her parents did not take care of her, she answered in the affirmative. Regretting her action, Chinwendu said: “I’m not happy about my present condition because I never thought it will be like this.
I sincerely apologise to my family for the trauma I might  have caused them in a bid to extort money from them for my project and other requirements. To my friends out there, my advice is that they should not involve themselves in such a crime.” Photo Crdt: The Nation
