Lamido of Adamawa strips ex-Gov. Nyako, son of traditional titles

The Lamido of Adamawa Alhaji Muhammad Barkindo Mustafa yesterday announced that former governor of the state, Vice Admiral Murtala Nyako, and his son, Senator Abdul’Aziz Nyako, have been stripped of their traditional titles of Sarkin Yamma, and Sarkin Matasa respectively.
This move is regarded as the climax of a long standing political feud between the present Adamawa state governor, Mohammed Jubrilla Bindow and the former governor’s political dynasty.

Only last week, the state government inaugurated a committee to probe some projects of the Nyako administration.

Nyako was impeached by the state House of Assembly in 2014, but the impeachment was declared illegal by the Court of Appeal. The Court did not, however, order for his reinstatement.

But the Supreme Court has fixed Dec. 16 of this year as the date on which it will decide the matter of Nyako’s reinstatement. This issue has significantly pitched him against Governor Bindow.
