Kidnappers lure artisan from Lagos to Rivers state with fake job offer

One Seun Oluwasegun who was rescued from kidnappers in Rivers State has been speaking about the nightmare he encountered in captivity.
Oluwasegun, who spoke in an interview with DAILY POST in Port Harcourt, recounted that he was invited from Lagos for a job at Igwurita in ‎Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
He said his abductors claimed they had a building that needed his services, which involves interior ceiling finishing, only for him to end up in the hands of kidnappers.
The victim said he realized he had been deceived after ‎a man led him to a location at Igwurita where he was seized by eight youth in arms.
The man from Lagos said he was held in the den of the kidnappers for close to a week, during which he was tortured by his abductors.
Segun narrated that, “I was called from Lagos to come and fix POP for a new hotel in Port Harcourt. After we agreed on the price, I decided to go to Port Harcourt. The man that called me even said I should enter flight, but I said I don’t have money. So I entered bus from Lagos and stopped at Igwurita where the man told me to stop.
“When I got to Igwurita junction, one Okada man called me and said the man I have been speaking to said he should bring me to the hotel. So I called the man and he confirmed that he sent the Okada man to carry me.
“All these were happening around 9pm because I got to Port Harcourt late. So we got to one thick bush when I just saw 8 guys holding machete and other things. They just asked if I am the person from Lagos to work in Port Harcourt, I said yes, they just jacked me up, took all my personal effects and then tied my hand and my face. I started begging them.
“They now asked me to call my people and tell them about my situation. So I called my brother. They started negotiating with my brother and threatened that they will kill me if they don’t receive the money in two days.
“In the end, I don’t know how my brother did it, I just noticed that some policemen came to rescue me. We did not pay any money to them. We later realized that the police caught one of them who now revealed my location to them. They also arrested some of the boys.
“I just want to say the Police in Rivers state are doing a good job. I was surprised in the way they came and rescued me. I just want to thank God and warn people to be careful with people they don’t know or what they are not sure of.”
He said it took the intervention of the police for him to be rescued without paying any ransom.
