Swimmer feared missing at Camber Sands is found safe after huge search

Aswimmer who sparked a huge search after a member of the public reported her missing at Camber Sands has been found safe and well.
The coastguard, police and RNLI were scrambled after a member of the public said they saw a woman diving into the water at the East Sussex beach at about 8am. A pair of abandoned flip flops were later discovered near the sea.

A Sussex Police spokesman said officers at the scene had been doing coastal checks to see if anyone was in any difficulty before the woman was identified around midday. A police spokesman wrote on Twitter: "A swimmer reported missing at #Camber earlier today (28 August) has been found safe and well.They added: "Police were called at around 9.40am on Sunday (28 August) to report concern for the welfare of a woman who was seen entering the sea on Camber Beach at around 8am.



"It was believed the woman, who was described as white with dark hair and wearing a black swimming costume, had left a pair of sandals on the beach which had still not been retrieved.

"Officers helped both the Coastguard and RNLI conduct a thorough search of the coastline, which included the Coastguard helicopter.
