Former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has claimed that the team that
won gold at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, USA, is better than the Dream
Team VI that finished third at the 2016 edition in Rio, Brazil.
The first picture is the Dream tean at Rio 2016 and the second is Atalanta Olympic 1996
Oliseh was part of the all-conquering team, that included players
like Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, Emmanuel Amuneke and Daniel Amokachi, who
saw off the likes of Brazil and Argentina to win the men’s football
event 20 years ago.
Most of them had played at the 1994 World Cup in the USA, but Samson
Siasia’s team only had captain Mikel John Obi, as the only man with
World Cup experience.Asked if the class of 2016 at Rio can be compared to the 1996 team,
Oliseh told fifa.com: “No, I don’t think so. Every country talks about
its own golden generation, and Nigeria is no different. You can’t have
several golden generations, or at least not in a short space of time.”
