Dead Dan

I grew up in a tight-knit community where everybody look after one another. Dan was the neighborhood's errand boy. Due to the fact that nobody in his family really took care of him, he had to fend for himself from an early age. My dad would give him guys- chores (as we're all girls!) in exhange for money, so I was used to have him around the house.

One day when I came back from school I was met with a crowd in the street of my house. Apparently there was an accident at one of my neighbor's house. From where I stood I just saw a few of the tall wooden fences were broken. And then I learned that the victim was Dan. He had climbed a guava tree by that fence, the branch must've snapped and he fell right through the wooden fence. He passed away the next day due to his injuries.
People talked about him for a few weeks but then life returned to normal.

One night I went to bed early. I tried to sleep but couldnt shake the feeling of something being off. I was filled with anxiety for unknown reason so I decided to sleep with parents. Then I had a dream, I was sitting in the livingroom when I heard somebody outside the door.
It was Dan.
I froze.
Dan, why are you here? You're dead.
"I came here to paint your house."
What?
The I saw he had a bucket of paint in his hand.
I stood in disbelief. I saw his standing there with one eye blind, which is weird since his eyes was normal when he was alive.
Then he was gone.

I woke up terrified. So I woke my mom and told her about the dream. Her face changed. She woke my dad told him I had a bad dream. I told him everything. He too, had a weird reaction. Normally adults would say something like it's okay, it's just a nightmare, let's go back to bed, etc. My dad was silent for a moment, "Dan had promised to help me out to paint the house a week before he died."
I swear I knew nothing about it.
But why in my dream he had a blind eye?
"Honey, he fell through the fence upside down. This might sound scary, but actually one bar pierced through his eye."
