The Shadow

Yes, a couple of years ago. We’d been visiting Dinefwr Castle in Llandeilo and decided to pop in to Newton House, which is in the grounds, and has a cafe. I was delegated to get drinks and snacks while my hubby sat outside with our dog.
I’d not been in the house before - it’s gloomy, with dark wood-panelled walls and dark flooring, and the entrance hall was massive. It’s a classic old mansion, and the National Trust ladies stationed there kindly explained a bit about its history. I then asked the way to the cafe and they pointed down a corridor, again fairly gloomy but brightly-lit at the end from windows I couldn’t see.
I started down the corridor, and about halfway down I saw the thing. It’s hard to describe - like a shadow, only more solid. Not as substantial as a person and not very well defined, but definitely person-shaped. It ran across the end of the corridor and into the wall of the cafe.
I’ve never seen anything like it before, and I hope I don’t again. I’ve always thought of myself as sensible and practical, but that was very spooky. Worse, I was directed to go left and down that corridor to get out by the staff. Clutching my armful of drinks and snacks, my hair standing on end, I was ready to throw it all at any shadow-thing.
Luckily, it didn’t reappear. But I found the corridor very strange, with the oddest air currents rippling around me. I got through as fast as I could and did a bit of research when I got back to the hotel - I discovered Dinefwr house has a reputation for ghosts and has been on ‘Most Haunted’ twice. I didn’t know this before my encounter. I was 56 at the time, and not easily fooled or impressed. I have no idea what the ‘thing’ really was; the only word I can suggest is ‘ghost’.
